Denis and Jackie Parsons established Bald Mountain Vineyards in July 1985. The vineyard is renowned for the exceptional quality and flavour of its wines.

Awards
Bald Mountain was the first Queensland wine producer to win a Gold Medal in the open classes of an Australian capital city show with its 1994 Shiraz Cabernet at Brisbane Show 1995. Now has won over 100 awards and trophies since inception

Location :
The vineyard is located inland near the Queensland/New South Wales border high up in the Great Diving Range. The property elevation ranges from 830 to 900 metres. The vineyard is located at the southern end of the Granite Belt region of Queensland.

Climate
The winters are heavily frosted with minimum temperatures ranging down to minus 10 to 12°C, with a fairly usual winter overnight minimum being around minus 5°C. Beautiful sunny days follow these frosty nights. There are occasional sleety days, and every few years or so there will be some snow.

The summers are generally very mild. There are usually about only 15 to 20 days where the daily maximum exceeds 30°C. It always cools down in the evening, and we almost always sleep under blankets.

Soils
The soils are very deep decomposed granitic gravels. In many areas the depth exceeds 6 metres. The profile is very free draining.

Plantings
There are 16 acres (6.5 ha) comprising Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Training
All blocks are trained to the lyre trellis, which is a system developed by the Bordeaux Viticultural Research Institute in the late 1970's through to the mid 1980's. The system optimises all the factors important to wine grape quality. Even inexperienced palates can taste the difference in the vineyard.

Bald Mountain's wines are branded under three well known trademarks :
